We are seeking a passionate and strategic Director of Brand Marketing to lead brand strategy and execution for Backcountry and Competitive Cyclist. This leader will shape how our brands show up across all customer touchpoints — from social to events, from athlete partnerships to campaigns — and ensure we build authentic connections with core outdoor and cycling communities. You will be responsible for driving brand awareness, engagement, customer acquisition, and loyalty through integrated marketing strategies that inspire and grow our customer base.

This role requires a hands-on, collaborative leader with deep experience in brand storytelling, partnerships, and go-to-market execution within premium, lifestyle, or consumer-facing brands. You will manage a high-performing team while partnering closely with merchandising, creative, eCommerce, and performance marketing teams. This role is challenging – above and beyond the day-to-day responsibilities, you’ll have a big role within a fast-paced team. This position will report into the VP of Marketing.

    • Brand Leadership & Strategy         
    • Develop and own the brand positioning, messaging frameworks, and annual brand marketing plans for Backcountry and Competitive Cyclist.  This extends to the Owned Brands that Backcountry produces and sells.
    • Define and protect the unique brand voice, visual identity, and customer experience across all touchpoints.
    • Lead long-term strategies that enhance brand equity while also driving measurable business growth
    • Integrated Marketing & Go-To-Market Execution
    • Oversee all brand campaigns and seasonal go-to-market launches, ensuring alignment across digital, retail, PR, social, and experiential channels.
    • Partner with merchandising, analytics, and creative to deliver compelling launches that connect product to brand storytelling.
    • Athletes, Ambassadors & Partnerships
    • Build and manage a roster of world-class athletes, ambassadors, and community partners aligned to brand values.
    • Create partnership and sponsorship strategies that authentically engage target audiences and amplify brand relevance in outdoor and cycling categories.
    • Events & Experiential Marketing
    • Lead the strategy and execution of key events, sponsorships, and grassroots activations.
    • Ensure events serve as powerful extensions of brand storytelling and opportunities to engage deeply with our communities.
    • Social Media & Content
    • Own the brand’s social strategy and oversee creation of compelling organic content that grows engagement, reach, and cultural credibility.
    • Partner with creative and content teams to tell stories that inspire customers and align with brand voice.
    • Public Relations & Communications
    • Drive brand PR strategy, media outreach, and corporate communications in partnership with internal PR/comms and external agencies.
    • Elevate the brands across endemic, consumer lifestyle, and business press.
    • Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Build, inspire, and mentor a high-performing brand marketing team.
    • Foster alignment and partnership across e-commerce, creative, merchandising, PR, performance marketing, and executive leadership.

What you bring to the role:

    • 10+ years of experience in brand marketing, with at least 5 years leading teams and owning brand strategy at a senior level.
    • Proven track record of building strong consumer brands in retail, outdoor, cycling, sports, or lifestyle categories.
    • Expertise across social media, influencer/athlete marketing, events, partnerships, and PR.
    • Strong experience developing and executing campaigns that drive both brand equity and measureable results.
    • Excellent leader and collaborator able to influence at all levels and rally teams around a shared vision.
    • Deep passion for outdoor recreation, cycling, and the communities our brands serve.
